The McLaren driver Sergio Perez has said that the current setup of the McLaren car is suited to the British driver Jenson Button. McLaren have had the policy of not favouring one driver over the other, but it seems that they are clearly banking on the experience of the former Brawn GP driver. Button is the only driver in the McLaren in the line-up to have lifted the world championship title. Meanwhile, McLaren have had a history of falling out with Spanish speaking drivers like Fernando Alonso and Montoya over the years. However, Perez has revealed that he is getting on extremely well with the team.
The 23-year-old was signed as the replacement for Hamilton, who departed for Mercedes at the end of the season. He has rated his adaption to the McLaren policy at 7/10. He has said that it is quite obvious that Button has had a lot of input in the development of the car considering his experience, but it does not mean that Perez will struggled this season. He has expressed his confidence that he will be able to adapt his driving style to the McLaren car by the time the world championship kicks off in the next few weeks. The Australian Grand Prix will be the inaugural Grand Prix of the season.
“Jenson is obviously a very experienced driver and has put a lot into the car. It is slightly adapted to his style, so it’s up to me to adapt to that, but I’m sure I will be completely ready in Australia. In any case, I am delighted with McLaren. All my life I’ve dreamed of being on this team, and from day one I have felt at home. Every year, every race, there are different circumstances with the different drivers,” said Perez after the pre-season testing.
