Lotus F1 driver Romain Grosjean has revealed that he is ready to step and become the team’s first choice following the announcement of the departure of the team’s current first choice driver Kimi Raikkonen to Ferrari at the end of the current racing season.
The departure of the Finn to the Italian giants, with whom he won the Drivers’ World Championship back in 2007 leaves a huge void at the English team and his teammate acknowledged the fact as well.
Yet, the Frenchman who has managed to take two podium finishes so far this season believes he is at the right stage of his career to make the step up and take it to the next level. The French driver has been in fine form in the last few races and he believes if he manages to continue in the same vein of form for the remaining six races of the season, he will be in a good position to stake his claim.
Romain Grosjean stated that he has always maintained that Kimi leaving the team would be a huge blow adding that there is no doubt about his abilities. He mentioned that they push each other very hard during practice sessions and he has been extremely consistent with his performances.
He admitted that it was a great experience for him to be working alongside the Finn and he hopes all that he has learned from him will hold him in good stead in the new season. Romain Grosjean admitted that he is in Formula One to race and win the world title and for that to happen, he needs to be the team’s first choice and added that it is one of the major things that he would like to achieve from now to the end of the season.
