British luxury auto company Aston Martin is reportedly looking to be more involved in the Formula One.
The chief executive Andy Palmer opened up on this amid speculations that the company could pair up with Red Bull and possibly engine involvement.
Red Bull and Aston Martin have an involvement in place as the team’s race cars are branded with the marque since 2016. A designer for the racing company has also worked on the AM-RB 001 Valkyrie ‘hypercar.’ The designers Adrian Newey has been in charge of the Renault-powered race cars and won four straight drivers’ and constructors’ titles from 2010 to 2013.
There are rumours that Aston Martin could become the title sponsor for Red Bull in the next racing season. For now Palmer said at the Singapore Grand Prix:
“We want to be more involved in the sport. We’re currently studying the 2021 engine. If we get a reasonable regulation that brings down the cost of the engine, Aston would like to be involved in the engine.” (more…)
This weekend at the Australian Grand, Will Davison was appointed as the new driver of the Minardi two-seater Formula 1 car.
He has been provided with the opportunity to complete a number of laps of the Albert Park circuit in the V10-powered modified Minardi F1 car, this is a dream come true for him.
“Formula 1 was the real dream I chased for a long time,” he recently told Motorsport.com.
“I had my big crack at F1, there’s no hiding the fact that that was a real dream and a real passion of mine that I pursued hard.
“There is still a big place in my heart for the F1 fraternity and the F1 world. I’m obviously well past that now as a driver and in terms of racing in Formula 1, but it’s still cool to have that small taste at any opportunity – particularly at Albert Park,” he added.
The Supercar’ star has sampled the two-seater Minardi in the past, of which he completed a number of passenger rides at Mount Panorama back in 2014. With that recent experience, he doesn’t seem to have any issues with doing back the open-wheeler mode after a decade of racing Touring Cars again. (more…)
